Our workshops are designed to give you and your dog the opportunity to try a different dog sport or activity without having to commit to a 6 week class.

Or, a way to spend time fully immersed in one of your favourite dog sports or activities.

We also have sessions designed to address specific training exercises or behaviour topics.

Most of our sessions offer both working spots (1 person + 1 dog) or observer spots (1 person, no dog).

This is a one day introduction to tracking workshop.  No experience necessary.  We can accommodate some beginner teams that are just starting their tracking journey, but this workshop is geared towards those who want to see what tracking is all about and have minimal or no tracking experience.  If you are unsure if this is a suitable workshop for you and your K9 please email us at: info@bfdogtraining.ca

This workshop will introduce participants to the foundation pattern games from the Control Unleashed program created by Leslie McDevitt.   The CU program offers dogs and their handlers predictable and safe behaviour patterns to follow which help them to process their environments and cope with stress and anxiety.   The patterns facilitate a conversation between handler and dogs that helps to build confidence and calmness at both ends of the leash.

Prerequisites for working spot: 2 x DHPP, 12+ weeks of age, people and dog friendly / neutral

Prerequisites for observers: None

Format: 1 evening, 2.5 hours in length

Price:   Working spot – $75+HST, Auditor – $30+HST

You will be required to bring a crate or x-pen, and to crate/pen your dog when it is not involved in an exercise.   If you are unable or unwilling to do so, please consider signing up as an observer instead.

Time: 9:00AM SDDA Novice

If you are getting ready for a trial or would like to see if you and your dog are ready for a trial at the novice level, then this is the practice session for you!  This session is also open to those who just want to have a fun training session at the novice level.

The 1hr session includes a set up for containers, interior and exterior. Dogs must be up to date on DHPP + Rabies vaccines and you must be able to safely contain your dog in your vehicle when it’s not your turn.

Cost: $25+HST

 


Time: 10:30AM SDDA Advanced

If you are getting ready for an SDD Trial or would like to see if you and your dog are ready for a trial at the Advanced level, then this session is for you!

This session is also open to those who just want to have a fun training session at the advanced level.

This 1hr session will have a set up for containers, interior and exterior.  Dogs must be up to date on DHPP + Rabies vaccines and you must be able to safely contain your dog in your vehicle when it’s not your turn.

Cost: $25 + HST

 


Time: 12:00PM SDDA Excellent

If you are getting ready for an SDD Trial or would like to see if you and your dog are ready for a trial at the excellent level, then this session is for you!

This session is also open to those who just want to have a fun training session at the excellent level.

This 1.5hr session will have a set up for containers, interior and exterior.  Dogs must be up to date on DHPP + Rabies vaccines and you must be able to safely contain your dog in your vehicle when it’s not your turn.

Cost: $35 + HST

 


Patterns to help prepare for the trial environment.   Certified Control Unleashed Instructor Maggie Bird will show participants how to apply the patterns learned in the Intro Workshop and introduce additional patterns to help both ends of the leash gain comfort and build confidence in the dog sport trial environment.

SAR Camp Friday July 31st- Sunday August 2nd 2026.

Start Time 8:00AM Friday July 31st at Best Friends School of Dog Training. 

REGISTRATION OPENS JUNE 20TH AT 9:00AM.  

Camp will take place at various locations in and around the Ottawa area.

Fee:   $400/dog team (1 dog + 1 handler), $175 for observers.

Camp fees includes instruction only.  Lodging, meals must be arranged by the student.
