Nancy Trus has been an instructor at Best Friends since 2005 but has lived and worked with animals all her life.   In past lives she was a scientist, volunteered with therapeutic riding programs, volunteered with the Humane society and raised two boys in a busy, hockey obsessed home.

Now you can find her teaching classes in all levels of obedience.  She also teaches rally obedience classes and all of her dogs have rally titles.  Nancy also loves teaching her dogs tricks as demonstrated by her 3 Trick Dog Champion dogs.  She shares that love with students in Pet Trick classes as a certified trick dog instructor and evaluator.  Her current golden retrievers, Gambit and Crush have a passion for dock diving and are both certified therapy dogs.  Animal assisted therapy is Nancy’s favourite activity outside of teaching.  You might spot her with her dogs in the Ottawa Courthouse or in a senior’s residence or a library or a school (especially during exam time) sharing her golden retrievers’ soft ears and ever present smiles with anyone who would benefit from the unconditional love that only a dog can give.
