We’re all familiar with working dogs, trained to detect drugs
or explosives or contraband. But did you know you could also train the family pet, using identical techniques, to detect and indicate target odours as well? Scent detection can be a recreational activity for any dog with a nose. There are even outlets for you to compete and earn titles with your dog if you so choose.
This workshop is designed for people and dogs who are new to the sport. Over the course of the day, we will imprint your dog on a target odour (wintergreen) and have him searching for that odour in various contexts. You’ll learn all about the sport of scent detection – rules, trials – and how to take part in this exciting activity.
And your dog will be thrilled to be doing what he does best. Sniffing!
