The real fun of skijoring, or other small team harness sport is to build a team in which both the dog and human can trust each other and enjoy the ride together. Whether you are starting to work with a puppy, starting skijoring with your mature dog or hoping to get tips to work better with your skijor or small team lead dog, this presentation will cover all pertinent information.
Topics will include:
- Equipment
- Developing a single leader, teaching commands
- Driving skills (communication and handling)
- Dog health and fitness relative to skijoring
- Common mistakes
Note this is a seminar presentation, information will be presented via lecture and video. Please leave your dog at home.
Format: 1 evening, 2 – 2.5 hours in length
Our Speaker:
Murielle Gouriou Ovenden is an Ottawa-based skijorer, who has been competing on the North American pro circuit for the past 6 years. She has also participated in two World Championships, and in 2011 won the bronze medal in single dog skijoring in the International Federation of SledDog Sports (IFSS). She is currently an athlete delegate with the IFSS , and skijoring coordinator for Mush Larose
