Dogs with Jobs is a winter lecture series, covering many of the roles that dogs play in the modern world. All proceeds from these presentations will go directly and entirely to the Ottawa Valley Search and Rescue Dog Association, a registered charitable organization.
The OPP K9 Unit has been active for over 50 yrs. It has grown to become a unit of 28 handlers, and some 40 operational dogs, each stationed at strategic locations across the province.
In this presentation by OPP Sgt Shawn Campbell of the OPP K9 Academy, you will learn about the specific elements of how police dogs are selected, trained, tested and employed. Sgt Campbell has been a dog handler and trainer with the OPP for almost 2 decades, and has tremendous insight the all aspects of police dogs: general service dogs, explosives, drug and cadaver detection dogs, and disaster dogs.
This presentation is for humans only, so please leave your dog at home. We’re hoping for a full house – so bring along a chair, a note pad and all of your questions!
