Dogs with Jobs is a winter lecture series, covering many of the roles that dogs play in the modern world. All proceeds from these presentations will go directly and entirely to the Ottawa Valley Search and Rescue Dog Association, a registered charitable organization.
During their daily routine, explosive detection dog handlers and their canines may search cargo shipments, luggage, and passenger carry-on bags. They are most frequently employed at airports, border crossings, and ports. Ahandler must be familiar with each behavioral signal their dog may offer, and they are responsible for initiating a search if a dog signals that it has located a target odour.
We are grateful to presenters Russ and Danielle Fox, dog handlers at the Ottawa Airport Authority, for agreeing to come and talk about their experiences selecting, training and fielding explosive detection dogs.
This presentation is for humans only, so please leave your dog at home. We’re hoping for a full house – so bring along a chair, a note pad and all of your questions!
Start time is 7:00pm. Event is expected to last 1.5 – 2 hrs.
